  6. "He put his arms around her and hugged her tight, and whispered the single word, "Remember!" The significance of the one word "Remember" is that Jesse is Reminding Winnie that when she turns 17, to drink the water from the spring that he gave her so that she can run away with him and live a happy life together.

    2) Soon after Winnie got comfortable on the cot, the constable came into the cell, closed the shutters and stood over her before he left the room. "...How the constable had come into the cell... How he had let down a sutter over the window...How, then, he had stood over her..." These are quotes that Winnie explains what happened when she got comfortable on the cot.

    3) The constable reacted astonished and then furious when he discovered what happened. " But his comical astonishment lasted for a moment only. And then his face flushed red with anger." This quote is when Winnie is thinking back on how the constable reacted when he saw her.

    4) In the epilogue, the parts that describe the passage of time are: That the roads have been blck topped, the wood where Winnie used to live was gone, there was a gas station which meant that there are now cars and different buisnesses. "...A hot dog stand; a dry cleaner; a pharmacy; a five-and-ten; another gas station..." "A black and white police car..." This is a list from the book of all the things that changed Treegap, all the buisneses and how they now have cars. The wood and spring has been dug out ever since a big electrical storm hit. "Caught fire and everything. Tore up the ground too." This is a quote that explains a bit on what happened to the spring and the Foster's wood. Tuck says "Good girl" because he is proud of her that she let her "wheel of life" stop turning, instead of drinking form the spring. "But dying's part of the wheel, right there next to being born." This quote is when Tuck is explaining to Winnie that one day she will die, how it's part of the wheel instead of living forever.

    1. The significance of Jesse’s one word ‘remember’ means that he wants Winnie to remember to drink the bottle of springwater he has given her when she turns seventeen so that they can be together and get married. On page number 71 and 72 Jesse explains that he wants to marry Winnie, but when she seventeen. So, when she turns seventeen she must drink from the spring and live forever with Jesse.
    2. Soon after Winnie made herself comfortable on the cot, the constable hunched over her and watched her. She was hidden under a blanket while he did this and she tried to look as big as Mae as she could. “For the hundredth time she reviewed it all: how the constable had come into the cell soon after she had settled herself on the cot; how he had let down a shutter over the window to keep out the rain; how, then, he had stood over her as she hunched under the blanket, her breathing heavy, trying to look as large as possible; how, finally, he had gone away and not come back till morning.”(128) In conclusion, this is what had happened soon after Winnie made herself comfortable on the cot.
    3. The constable had reacted by telling Winnie that if she was old enough then she could be in jail herself for assisting a criminal in escaping. He acted surprised at first when he saw her, but then very angry within the next few seconds. “He came up to the barred door of her cell…”(129) I think that the constable should have monitored the cell better so that this wouldn’t of happened. In my opinion, he shouldn’t be angry because it is partly his own fault.
    4. The parts in the epilogue that suggest the passage of time are that the wood was torn down, there is a gas station, a Hudson automobile, and a diner. If it had these things it hints that it is much farther in time then when Mae Tuck escaped from the cell. They wouldn’t dare to go back so quickly after doing that. The woods and the spring have been torn down due to an electrical storm which caused a huge tree to be struck and a forest fire to start. (136) Tuck says “Good girl.” When he sees Winnie’s gravestone because he told her when they were talking in the boat that living forever was not something to be taken lightly. It had a lot of cons like not being able to have friends, moving a lot, and just the way that you have to live your life so differently then a normal human.

  8. 1.The signifence of Jesses word remember is for Winnie to remember to drink the spring water when she is 17 so they can be together
    2. As soon as Winnie was comfortable on the cot the constable come in." How the constable came into the cell soon after she had settled herself on the cot."(PG.128)
    3. When the constable found out what had happened his face was red with anger.(pg. 129) " And then his face flushed red with anger."
    4. The decription in the passage describes that the road is paved and there are many other streets and the wood is gone. You can infer that it is the future. There was a big electrical storm and a big tree fell right down the middle so they had to clear cut it down. " Had a big electrical storm, though, about three years ago now or there about. Big tree got hit by lightening, split right down the middle. Caught on fire and everything. Tore up the ground too. Had to buldoze her all down." I think Tuck said good because he feels that her life is done and she has done her job and she should be proud, he didnt want her to live forever, he wanted her to finish the wheel
